Our children in most cases are using the internet to expand their horizons and enhance their knowledge base. However, have we done all we can to educate them on the dangers ever present on the Internet?
Work out a plan with your kids on what they should do to protect your kids from internet predators and bullies. Include a simple 'no-response' rule in your plan by telling your kids to avoid replying to a hurtful message and instead, reporting it to you, a trusted school teacher or school staff. If your child is prepared, he will be better at handling the situation should it occur to him.
These predators wait for your kids to join Internet chat rooms, or enter different numerous web sites that they know they'll use of their favor to strategy your unsuspecting child, and when the time is excellent, they attack.
One of the most famous approaches is empathy. Usually the victim is a teenager who, due to the continuous struggle with adults' authority, believes that no body understands or cares about him/her. The predator, who tries to communicate with such kids in chat rooms, interactive games, or on social media after school hours, gives a listening ear to this kid.
Cyber stalkers may think they are undetectable when they harass people online but the truth of the matter is that they can be identified and stopped. Modern technological advances have developed numerous ways in which to identify and locate these individuals and the process is often quite fast. One of the most common ways in which this can be done is through a computer investigation known as a reverse e-mail trace.
Since there are so many different areas of online use, you must let your children know that they can still keep themselves safe while using instant messaging and chat rooms. You must protect your children by letting them know that it is not permissible to use public or private online chat rooms, as they are potentially in danger while talking to any stranger.
Sex offenders lurk just beyond the cyber cloud. Pedophiles hide in the virtual bushes right outside your home. Your child is just within their reach, whether you have predators in your neighborhood, or even if the predators live hundreds or thousands of miles away.
It is important that individuals who are subjected to the intimidation of cyber stalkers do not sit by and do nothing. Nobody wants to find that they did nothing about a situation such as this, to find that the guilty party ended up becoming a dangerous sexual predator that engaged in serious behavior online AND off.
